Parent Etiquette for Games

  1. Leave the coaching to the coaches. Limit your sideline comments to "good job", or "way to go".  This is difficult to do, especially if you see something that the coach is missing. However, children need to concentrate on the field, It can be difficult when hearing comments from both parents and coaches. Also, you do not want to tell your child something contrary to what the coach has said.
  2. Never make negative comments about other players.  The ability of the players on your child's team is beyond your control.  If you speak negatively about others, that attitude will be passed on to your child.  Keep your negative comments to yourself.
  3. Win or lose, always greet your child and their teammates with a positive word at the end of the game.  If you saw a problem in the game, now is not the time to bring it up with your child.  Please not that the focus for U10s, U8s, and U6s is developing individual skills.  As such, the coaches are not concerned about the result of the game; they are concerned with the football skill development of your child.
  4. Above all, have FUN.  It is important not to cause your child anxiety with your behavior.  Relax and youth football can be fun for everyone.
