FA Challenge Cup semis cast complete
by Rosolyn Monroyo
The 2013 FA Youth Challenge Cup is down to four teams after three squads won their respective games last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
MP United Boys U15 bagged the second semis berth in the single-elimination tournament after slipping past Shirley’s FC Girls Team, 2-1, in the first game.
Sun Joon Tenorio scored the winning goal in the 78th minute to foil Shirley’s FC upset bid. Earlier in the first half, Alex Park put MP United in the board with his goal in the fifth minute, while Dianne Pablo forced the deadlock seven minutes later.
With the victory, MP United Boys U15 arranged a family affair in the semifinals with MP United Boys U18, which got a bye and an outright Final Four berth in the seven-team tournament. MP United Boys U18 was seeded first in the FA Cup after ruling the U18 fall league early this month. The all-MP United semis duel is set for tonight at 6pm with the winner advancing to the one-game finals scheduled for this Saturday at 6pm and the loser playing in the consolation match, also this weekend at 4pm.
In the other semis pairing, it will be Tan Holdings FC Boys U18 versus Paire FC U18, as the two squads also won their first round matches last weekend.
Paire FC U18 9, Tan Holdings U15 0
Paire FC U18 schooled Tan Holdings U15 in the second match in the first round.
Ethan Dickinson led Paire’s lopsided win, as he nailed a hat-trick, while Keeanu Diaz contributed two goals, and four others chipped in one goal apiece.
Dickinson lit up the scoreboard for Paire first with his goal in the 15th minute, while Saixian Bagsic scored, too five minutes later. Hae Sung Lee made it a 3-0 advantage with his goal in the 40th, while Diaz followed quickly with his first goal in the 41st.
Diaz picked up where he left off, getting his second goal right into the second minute of the final frame, while Dickinson also earned his second goal in the 57th. John Abelinde joined the spree seven minutes later, while James David scored next (70th) before Dickinson capped his hat-trick with a goal in the 71st.
Tan Holdings U18 4, Matansa U15 1
Tan Holdings Boys U18 secured the fourth and final semis ticket in the FA Cup after outclassing Matansa Boys U15.
After holding a shaky 1-0 halftime lead, Tan Holdings dominated Matansa in the second half to make it to the next round. Sean Perez handed Tan Holdings a precarious advantage in the opening half after finding the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Then in the second half, back-to-back goals from Yoshi Mafnas gave Tan Holdings more cushion before Ryu Tanzawa finally broke Matansa’s silence in the 65th. Tan Holdings had the last say when Matansa committed an error, awarding the former an own goal.
Tan Holdings U18 will face Paire FC U18 in the other semis pairing tomorrow
at 6pm.
